A Child's Prayer
Little blonde girl praying - Deborah Conway at Fitzroy Gardensphoto © 2010 Alpha | more info (via: Wylio)

My friend Andra just posted her 4-year-old's prayer on Facebook:

Dear Jesus, thank you for food & my sisters. Please don't die because then there's no one to pray to. Make my stomach be able to eat ice cream. Amen.

Have any of your children ever prayed funny prayers? Share them with us in the comments!

And here's my post on teaching kids the 5-finger method for prayer. It works for us adults, too!

I can't think of any of my own children's at the moment- but in my 1st grade Sunday School class, I once had to make a stipulation that we would not be praying for dead animals. lol! I had one little boy who told long stories of the exploits of his cat- which ended with how the cat had been killed. We prayed for him missing his cat instead. :)

Caleb's first prayer consisted of "hi God, night night."
Now he will decide that he's going to pray for breakfast: Dankie lar God for dis food. A-ben"
He also will often say a prayer after he's been in a time out: Dankie lar (aka thank you) God for my chair. And sorry mommy be angry at me. And sorry I hit the cat. Please 'give me. Love you, Bye"

When my oldest was five, for six months, every-single-night he prayed "Dear Lord, thank you for this day (and this, and that) .. and Lord? Please send me a kitten I can keep, and let President Bush get reelected. In Jesus name, Amen"

When both of my girls were super little they would get to the last page of their books and say "Amen" Always made me laugh.

My now five year old starts her prayers every night with "Dear God, Thank you for the wonderful Day" Although the rest of her prayer is always very thoughtful and pertinent to the going ons in her life, she hasn't started a prayer in the last 2 years with anything other than "Dear God Thank you for the Wonderful Day"

What a true blessing it is to hear our children pray :)

We were visiting my parent's house, an hour from home. The 5 yr old wanted to sleep over. We said no, we were going home. My husband and I left to do some errands and came back to discover that Grandpa had let our dog out and it ran away. Later we learned it had been nabbed by the dog catcher. We had to stay overnight and retrieved the dog in the morning. On the way home, the 5 year old admitted she'd PRAYED to stay at Grandma and Grandpa's house!! Does God answer prayer in mysterious ways, or what??!! That prayer cost $85!!!
